Piatt County is a small county in Central Illinois consisting of approximately 440 square miles and a population of 16,700. The first sheriff of Piatt County, John Piatt, took office in May, 1841, shortly after the county was formed. The current sheriff, Mark Vogelzang, is the thirty-fourth individual to hold the office.
The Piatt County Sheriff's Office consists of a Patrols and Investigations Division, a K-9 unit, a Court Security Division and a Corrections Division that operates a jail with a capacity of seventy-six inmates.
